Privacy notice
This notice explains what information is handled when you use Orsena, why, and the choices you have. It is written for visitors in the United Kingdom under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Draft. Effective date to be confirmed.
Who we are
Orsena is preparing to operate through a UK private limited company. Its legal name, company number and registered office will be published here once registration is complete.
Once registered, the operator will be the controller of the limited personal information described below.
Information we handle
You can browse Orsena without an account and without giving us your name, email address or payment details. When you use the site, the following is processed:
- Searches and filters. The words you search for and the filters you choose appear in the page address and are sent to our catalogue database to return matching products. We do not link them to your identity.
- Technical information. Like any website, your browser sends your IP address, device and browser type when pages, fonts and images load. Our hosting provider keeps short technical logs to run and secure the site.
- Error reports. If a page fails, technical details of the error may be sent to our hosting provider so we can fix it.
Purposes and lawful bases
We use this information to show search results, deliver pages, keep the service secure and fix problems. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: running a working, secure discovery service. If you contact us by email, we use your message to reply, also on the basis of legitimate interests.
Launch waitlist and email updates
If you join the Orsena waitlist, we store your email address, whether you joined as a customer or a vendor, when you joined, and, if the link you used included one, a short referral tag (for example, which social channel sent you).
We use this to email you about Orsena’s launch and, if you joined as a vendor, about joining Orsena. Our lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. Submitting the same email again updates your customer or vendor choice rather than creating a second entry.
Promotional emails beyond launch updates are optional. We only send them if you tick the separate, unticked marketing box, and we record when you gave that consent. You can withdraw any consent or ask us to delete your waitlist entry at any time using the privacy contact below, and every marketing email will include an unsubscribe option.
Waitlist details are kept in our secure database, are not publicly accessible, and are kept until Orsena launches and for as long as you remain subscribed, or until you ask us to remove them. To limit abuse, we keep a short-lived, one-way scrambled version of the network address used to submit the form.
Saved products and vendors
When you choose to save a product or vendor, its identifier is stored in this browser on your device. No account or email address is required. We do not send your saved list to our servers. We use the identifiers to show currently available public listings when you return. You can remove individual saves on the Saved page, or clear this site's browser data to remove the list. Clearing browser data or using another browser means the list will not be available there.
Saved items do not register you for emails. Price-drop alerts are not currently active.
Cookies and analytics
The public site does not set advertising or analytics cookies and does not use third-party tracking. Browser storage keeps the products and vendors you explicitly choose to save, and keeps staff signed in on the private team area. Saved-item storage is used to provide the saving function you request. We do not show a banner for advertising or analytics cookies because we do not use them.
Third-party providers
- Website hosting serves the site and keeps technical logs.
- Catalogue database (Supabase) stores product and vendor information and receives your searches. Our backend provider also stores waitlist sign-ups.
- Google Fonts supplies the site’s typefaces, so Google receives your IP address when fonts load.
- Retailer and image hosts. Product photos load from vendors’ own websites or image services, which receive standard technical information.
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.
Retailer websites
When you select “Visit retailer” or a social link, you leave Orsena. Anything you do there, including purchases, is governed by that business’s own privacy policy.
How long we keep information
We do not keep a personal profile of visitors. Hosting logs are kept only for as long as needed for security and operation. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to or restrict how it is used, and request a portable copy. Because we hold very little information about visitors, we may need details from you to find anything relating to you.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to help first.
Privacy enquiries
Our privacy contact address will be published here soon. You can also visit our contact page.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if our practices change, for example if we introduce accounts or change how we send emails.
